Pirates unable to overcome Colorado College on Saturday night

GEORGETOWN, Texas – The Southwestern men's basketball team nearly overcame a 14-point second-half deficit, but Colorado College held on to hand the Pirates a 76-69 loss on Saturday night at the Robertson Center.

The Tigers (12-7, 7-1 SCAC) held a 53-39 advantage with 12:39 left in the second half.

Southwestern (7-11, 4-3 SCAC) began chipping away at the visitors' lead, scoring six straight to pull within eight points. After a free throw went down for John Hatch to push the score to 54-45, the Pirates went on a 13-5 run that trimmed the lead to only two points.

However, Colorado College answered the run with a 3-pointer from Eric Houska with 4:46 to play.

Southwestern was unable to get any closer than three points the rest of the way before the Tigers clinched the victory.

Ryan Ogden led the Pirates with a double-double effort of 15 points and 10 rebounds. Zach Whitlock added 15 points.

Hatch led Colorado College, which shot 54.9 percent from the field, with a game-high 17 points.

The Pirates will resume action on Friday, Jan. 29, in a road contest against Centenary.
