For the first time since the Southwestern Pirates joined the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference, the men's basketball team was victorious in both meetings over conference-rival Trinity.
The two teams first met up in San Antonio on January 16th. Ryan Ogden posted his second career double-double with game-highs in points, 28, and rebounds, 10, to lead the Pirates to a 74-69 win. SU shot 42.9% from the floor and an astonishing 59.1% from three point range and 86.4% from the free throw line. Trinity was held to 44.6% from the field, 34.6% from long range and 52.6% from the charity stripe.
Three weeks later the rematch was on, this time in Georgetown. Trinity fought back from 11 points down with 3:42 to play to make a game of it, but Southwestern prevailed with a 60-54 win. Chris Lee ended the game with 18 points to lead all scorers while Zach Whitlock posted a double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds.
Southwestern ended the year with a 15-11 overall record after a thrilling run in the SCAC Championship. The Pirates defeated Schreiner in double overtime in the Quarterfinals 81-76 before falling to Centenary 87-80 in the Semifinals.
