Stingy second half leads to loss

Southwestern was outscored 43-28 in the second half to fall 75-63 to Texas Lutheran in their final regular season SCAC game Friday night.

The Pirates fell behind early but quickly rebounded to tie the game 10-10 six minutes in. Southwestern closed the half on a 7-4 run to take a three point lead into the locker room, 35-32.

SU went up by seven early in the second half but TLU began to get hot, chipping away at the lead until eventually tying the game 48-48 with just under ten to play. The Pirates went cold as they were outscored 20-10 in the next eight minutes to put SU in their biggest hole of the game with just over a minute to play.

The Pirates ran out of time as TLU secured the win 75-63.

Southwestern shot 41.1% from the floor and 40.9% from three point range and was led by Adrian Johnson's 14 points. Zach Whitlock added 13 and Travis Kurtz 11. TLU also went 41.1% from the field but just 15.8% from long range, being led by Jordan Kouremetis' 15 points. The difference came from the free throw line where SU made just 8-17 while TLU earned a massive 26 points on 34 attempts.

TLU also won the battle of the boards, pulling down 47 rebounds to Southwestern's 32. SU falls to 13-10 on the year and 8-6 in the SCAC but remain in third place in the conference despite the loss and will enter the conference tournament as the #3 seed next weekend. The Pirates have one final home game before the Championships, hosting UC Santa Cruz on Saturday at 2 p.m.
