Hot shooting Cowboys defeat Pirates

Hardin-Simmons shot nearly 50% from the field to hand the Pirates a 81-63 loss in Abilene on Saturday night. 

Southwestern trailed by just one at halftime, 29-28, but HSU heated up in the second half and shot 62.1%. 

The Cowboys pulled ahead by ten, but Southwestern fought back to get within six, 49-43 on Danny Kellum's layup with just over 12 minutes remaining. 

HSU didn't pull away until late in the frame to hand SU the loss. 

Chris Molina led Southwestern with 12 points off the bench. Blake Scott added in 11 while Zach Whitlock and Travis Kurtz posted ten points each. HSU's Derrick Jefferson led all scorers with 31 points. 

Southwestern was outrebounded 43-36 but the Pirates committed just 11 turnovers. 

Southwestern falls to 1-3 on the year while Hardin-Simmons remains undefeated at 7-0. Southwestern returns home to face Whitworth University at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
