Pirates fall cold in second half to Tigers, 57-41

GEORGETOWN – After a hot shooting first half the Southwestern University men's basketball went cold in the second half before falling to Trinity University, 57-41, inside the Robertson Center in SCAC action.

The Pirates close out league play with a 7-16 overall record and a 4-9 mark in the SCAC. Trinity – who had already wrapped up the top seed in next week's conference tournament improved to 15-9 on the year and 10-3 in league play.

Southwestern jumped out to a 27-21 lead at the break after shooting a hot 41 percent from the field. However, the two teams nearly flipped shooting percentages in the second half as the Pirates struggled to shoot 20 percent while the Tigers finished 54 percent from the field.

Senior Chase Kocher was the only Pirate to finish in double figures with a game-high 13 points and seven rebounds. Kocher knocked down the back-end of two free throws at the 18:10 mark of the second half to give the Pirates a 28-25 lead.

Trinity would respond with a 15-2 run over the next four minutes to take a 40-30 lead with 14 minutes left in the game. Matt Selling helped pace the Tigers knocking down four three pointers to finish with a team-high 12 points with teammate Zach Lambert.

The Pirates close out the regular season Saturday in a non-conference meeting with UC Santa Cruz. Tip from the Robertson Center is set for 5 p.m.
