Huge offensive night lifts Pirates to win

SEGUIN, Texas – Southwestern shot 54.3% from the floor to defeat Texas Lutheran University 74-69 on Saturday.

Texas Lutheran controlled most of the first half until Chase Kocher's layup with 2:45 to play in the half gave the Pirates their first lead of the game 30-29. SU hung on strong and took a two point lead, 39-37, into the locker room at halftime.

Southwestern didn't need one huge run to pull away but instead steadily built their lead throughout the second half. With six minutes to go SU was up seven, 63-57. SU 's defense took over the rest of the way, forcing the Bulldogs into tough shots as they closed out the game for the win.

SU shot 54.3% from the floor and 35% from three point range in the win while TLU was held to 39.3% from the floor and 20% from three point range on their home court.

Kocher led the scoring with 19 points off the bench on 7-9 shooting , 1-1 from three point range and 4-4 from the charity stripe. Kocher also led on the boards, falling just one rebound shy of his first double-double with nine rebounds.

With the win SU improves to 7-16 on the year and 4-9 in the SCAC. With one weekend remaining Southwestern sits in seventh place in the conference. They close the regular season against Trinity on Friday and UC Santa Cruz on Saturday.
