SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The Southwestern University
men’s basketball team picked up where they left off prior to
the holidays with a 79-54 trouncing of Dominican University in the
first game of the Holiday Classic held in San Antonio, Texas on
Monday. The win improves SU to 8-1 on the season and riding a seven
game win streak.
The Pirates came out strong early, building a seven point lead,
11-4, just four minutes into the contest and continued to push to
the end of the half. They closed out the period with an 8-2 that
gave them their largest lead of the half, 16 points (39-23),
heading into the break.
The second half was much of the same Southwestern continued their
dominance and built their lead up to 30 points, 57-27, five minutes
into the second half on a three-pointer by junior Nick Caputo.
Dominican never pulled closer than 23 points for the remainder of
the game.
Junior Jonathan Brown led the way for the Pirates with 19 points in
just 16 minutes of play. Caputo chipped in 16 points while senior
Collyn Kelley was 3-3 from long range to post 15 points in the
win.
Southwestern will next face an Illinois Wesleyan team that is
running up the Top 25 polls with a 7-2 record prior to facing
Trinity University later today. Game time is set for 2:00 pm and
