Baseball Splits Series, Wins Game Two on Walkoff

GEORGETOWN, TEXAS - Southwestern Baseball (12-10) battled the University of Dallas Crusaders (15-5) in their first conference home series of the year on Good Friday. The Pirates split the series against the Crusaders, losing the first game 9-6 but rebounding to win the second game in walk-off fashion. With the game tied at 5-5 in the bottom of the ninth, Jake Tanner came up to bat with the bases loaded and laced a ball to left center field to drive in the game-winning run for the Pirates. 

HIGHLIGHTS

  • James Vaquero had three hits on the day, including two RBIs off a home run in Game 1.
  • Maxwell Mims notched three hits and three RBIs on the day, his three RBI performance coming in Game 2.
  • Alexander Cannata led the Pirates in RBIs for both games with four across three total hits. 
  • Greg Ferguson got the start on the mound in game one and went six innings, throwing nine strikeouts with three earned runs.
  • Christian Melillo and Jacob Tanner each had two hits in Game 2.

  • Ryan Corbett went five innings in Game 1 with five strikeouts and two earned runs allowed. 
  • Kyle Porter was third on the team in strikeouts on the day, throwing three in two innings in Game Two. 
  • The Pirates came back from a 3-1 deficit in the bottom of the eighth, scoring four runs and giving the Pirates a 5-3 lead into the final inning.
