Baseball Sweep Series Against St. Thomas

GEORGETOWN, TEXAS - Southwestern Baseball (11-10) needed one game to complete the sweep against conference opponents St. Thomas (8-14) on Sunday, and the Pirates did just that in a game where they never trailed, taking the win from the Celts 12-7. Southwestern scored runs in six out of nine innings, including three straight innings with runs in the sixth, seventh and eighth. 

HIGHLIGHTS

  •  James Vaquero scored three runs against the Celts and was walked four times in the game, the most walks of any game in his season.
  • Christian Melillo also scored three runs, while collecting two hits and three stolen bases, his most stolen bases in a game this year. 
  • Alexander Cannata, Tres Organ and Ben Feuer all turned two double plays in the eighth and ninth innings.

NOTES

  • Braden Simpson got the win on the mound as the second reliever to come in, throwing three strikeouts with no walks and no runs scored. 
  • Every member of the starting lineup scored a hit, a run, or an RBI. Six different Pirates scored, and four of those players scored multiple runs. 
  • Maxwell Mims led the team in RBIs with four as well as one run scored and one hit.
