GEORGETOWN, TEXAS - Pirate Baseball (5-5) was back in action Friday night against the LeTourneau YellowJackets (5-7). The Pirates extend their win streak to three games against two different opponents, having defeated DeSales twice earlier in the week. In a low-scoring game where the wind at Rockwell Family Field played a significant factor, the Pirates were able to come away with two runs in the bottom of the sixth, giving them a 2-0 lead they would sustain for the rest of the game. The pitching duo of Carson Brown and Greg Ferguson shut out the YellowJackets for the first time this season.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Carson Brown went 7.1 innings for a total of 122 pitches, 76 strikes, and seven strikeouts.
  • Greg Ferguson closed the game out with five strikeouts on just thirty pitches and eight batters faced.
  • Maxwell Mims and James Vaquero combined for two RBIs at the bottom of the sixth to ensure the Pirates' lead and victory.

NOTES

  • Alexander Cannata recorded a solo double play in the top of the first inning.
  • Just three pitchers were used throughout the game between both teams.
  • The last shutout the Pirates gained was against the University of Dallas on March 19th, 2023

UP NEXT

  • Southwestern baseball will continue the three-game series against LeTourneau in a doubleheader on March 9th at 1:00 PM and 3:00 PM.
