Baseball Loses To Trinity, Eliminated From SCAC Tournament

CLEBURNE, Texas — The Southwestern University Pirates baseball team's SCAC Tournament ended with a 4-2 loss to the Trinity University Tigers.

Trinity struck first in the top of the third. Jack Wisniewski singled to right center to leadoff the inning and Southwestern starting pitcher Luke Richards walked the next two to load the bases, ending his evening.

Relief pitcher Koba Kobayashi came up big, limiting the damage to one run on a sacrifice fly, retiring the first three hitters he faced.

Southwestern also opened the third by loading the bases when Trinity starting pitcher Holden Nix walked Ted Lobkowicz, hit Hayden Craig, and surrendered a Daniel Montgomery Jr. single up the middle.

Trinity brought in Ian Hussian to pitch, giving up a run on a wild pitch and another on a Byron Dowdell II RBI groundout to give the Pirates a 2-1 lead.

The Tigers tied the game the next inning. Kobayashi hit one batter and walked another, exiting the game with two on and one out.

Relief pitcher Travis Harvey surrendered a Wisniewski RBI-single before getting out of the inning.

Trinity took advantage of back-to-back walks to open the top of the seventh with both runners advancing to second and third on a wild pitch. That set up a Jake Martin RBI on a fielder's choice with the Pirates failing to get Wisniewski out at home before Harvey ended the inning on a strikeout.

The Tigers added an insurance run in the top of the eighth, getting a leadoff walk from Michael Goodrich and moving him over on a sacrifice bunt to setup a Dalys Binder RBI-single up the middle for the 4-2 lead.

Ethan Hallmark hit a leadoff single for the Pirates in the bottom of the ninth but the Tigers' infield recorded three consecutive outs to end the game.

With the loss, the Pirates finish the season 24-19.
