Late game surge lifts Pirates to win

AUSTIN, Texas - Southwestern's bats came alive late in the game as the Pirates used a six-run, seventh inning to defeat Concordia University 8-4. 

After two scoreless innings the Tornados got on the board first with a single run in the third. They added three in the fifth while holding SU scoreless to put the Pirates in a hole 4-0.

Southwestern started to mount a comeback in the sixth with a two-out rally that brought home two runs and cut the deficit to two, 4-2. 

SU held Concordia scoreless in the bottom half of the inning before getting back at it offensively in the seventh. Another two-out rally put the Pirates on top as Southwestern posted six runs in the inning including a pair of two-RBI singles from Daniel Montgomery, Jr. and Riley Wayland

Trey Schwarz, who earned the win on the mound, Colton Hunter (save) and the Pirate defense took over for the rest of the game, holding Concordia to three hits in the final three and two-thirds innings. 

Montgomery, Jr. led at the plate going 2-3 with two RBIs, two runs and two walks. Cole Kelly and Wayland each recorded two RBIs on the night.

Southwestern improves to 17-22 on the year while Concordia falls to 26-13 overall. The win marks the end of the regular season as the Pirates wait to learn if they have earned a berth to the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) Championship beginning Friday, May 4th in Cleburne.
