Baseball Makes it Five-in-a-Row with Win Over Texas-Tyler

GEORGETOWN - The Southwestern University baseball team used excellent pitching from the duo of Tyler Polasek and Jacob Frankel as well as another huge game at the plate from Byron Dowdell II to win their fifth straight contest, knocking off Texas-Tyler 4-2 on Tuesday evening at Rockwell Field.

Polasek (W, 3-2) threw five complete, allowing one earned run on three hits while striking out five. Frankel (S, 1) entered in relief, throwing four complete and allowing only one hit while striking out three.

Dowdell gave Polasek an early advantage in the first as he singled home a run with the bases loaded for a 1-0 lead. He would strike again in the third with two on as he laced a two RBI triple down the right field line to push the lead to 3-0.

The Patriots got one back in the fourth and another in the fifth to cut the deficit to 3-2, but Southwestern had a two out rally in mind in the bottom of the fifth as junior Cole Kelly ripped a RBI double down the left field line to move back ahead 4-2.

That was all Frankel needed as he shut the Texas-Tyler offense down and finished the game off to move the Pirates to 12-10 on the season.

Dowdell now has a five game hitting streak including two or more hits in all five contests. He has three hits on three separate occasions. Senior Ethan Hallmark was 2-for-4 while freshman Seth Sparks was 1-for-2 with a run scored. Daniel Montgomery Jr.Jason McCormack, and Colby Schmidt each scored a run in the contest.

The Pirates are back in action tomorrow as they welcome No. 1 ranked Trinity University for a non-conference home match-up. First pitch is scheduled for 6 PM.
