Greenlees signs free-agent contract with Kansas City Royals

KANSAS CITY - Southwestern University junior Stephen Greenlees was signed as a free agent by the Kansas City Royals on June 30. The left-handed pitcher was assigned to the organization's Rookie League team, the Arizona League Royals in Surprise, Arizona.

Greenlees spent only one season with the Pirates. The 6-foot-4, 215-pounder was 0-3 with a 5.06 ERA in 18 appearances on the mound, including five starts. Greenlees shined in conference action after moving to the bullpen, as he logged a 2.77 ERA and limited opposing SCAC hitters to a .156 batting average.

Overall, Greenlees tallied 40 strikeouts in 37.1 innings of work, while holding opposing batters to a .222 average.

The Liberty Hill native made his professional debut on Tuesday, July 4, pitching two innings and allowing one hit and a run while receiving credit for a hold.
