GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas - Southwestern rallied with the tying run in the bottom of the ninth inning, but Trinity scored the winning run in the top of the 10th to eliminate the Pirates, 4-3, from the SCAC Championship on Saturday night at the AirHogs Stadium.
Southwestern trailed 3-2 heading into the bottom of the ninth inning. However with one out, Thomas O'Brien hit a pinch-hit double. Hunter Hazen, who came on as a pinch runner, took third on a wild pitch, and an errant throw allowed him to score the tying run.
In the top of the final frame, the Tigers received a one-out single from Rafe Chaumette, which sent Jake Walters plateward with the go-ahead score.
Chaumette then made a diving snag to save a potential extra-base hit in the bottom of the stanza, which led to a 1-2-3 inning and ended the contest.
Trinity moves on to face Centenary in the conference championship round, while the Pirates end their season with a 21-21 record.
Ben Little finishes his career with a 3 for 5 performance, while Kevin Wallace had a hit and drove in a run.
