Baseball swept by No. 7 Centenary

GEORGETOWN, Texas - The Southwestern baseball team dropped both ends of a doubleheader Saturday, as No. 7 Centenary completed the series sweep. The Gents picked up a 5-2 victory in the opener and then pulled away in the nightcap for a 12-2 win.

The Pirates (18-17, 7-8 SCAC) outhit the league-leading Gents (29-6, 15-3 SCAC) in the first game of the day, 9-8, but were left eight runners on base, including four in scoring position.

Daniel Montgomery Jr. and Colby Schmidt both recorded two hits apiece to pace the Bucs in the opener, while Ben Little and Cole Kelly each drove in a run.

Centenary scored runs in five innings to win the nightcap by double figures. An error with two outs in the second inning led to five unearned runs for the Gents.

Southwestern broke the scoring seal in the fifth inning, as Ethan Widoff and Ethan Hallmark both drove a run apiece.

However, it was the last runs the home team would register during the contest.

The Pirates will host No. 13 Texas-Dallas on Monday to close out their home slate. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.
