Schreiner sweeps Pirates on Saturday, claims series

KERRVILLE, Texas - The Southwestern baseball team dropped both ends of a doubleheader to Schreiner on Saturday at Mountaineer Field. The Pirates lost the opening tilt 13-2 in seven innings and suffered an 8-7 setback in the nightcap.

The loss in the middle game of the series ended Southwestern's six-game winning streak.

The Pirates (12-13, 2-4 SCAC) posted seven hits in the first game of the day and nine in the series finale.

Ethan Hallmark was 4 for 8 at the plate with a triple and an RBI to pace Southwestern on Saturday. John DeVilbiss hit his first career home run, a solo shot. Samuel Cox added two doubles, while Austyn Laird came off the bench to drive in two on a single.

Southwestern will return home to host Mary Hardin-Baylor in a non-conference tilt on Tuesday. First pitch is slated for 6 p.m. at Rockwell Field.
