Pirates use big innings to defeat Schreiner on Friday, 11-4

KERRVILLE, Texas - Southwestern scored four runs in the fifth inning to break a 2-2 tie, and the Pirates never looked back in an 11-4 win over Schreiner in Friday's series opener at Mountaineer Field.

Southwestern (12-11, 2-2 SCAC), which won its sixth consecutive contest, also plated four runs in the eighth inning.

The Pirates posted 16 hits, including four doubles, in the tilt. Kevin Wallace led the way with a 3 for 5 performance that included three RBIs. Cameron Cooper and Ben Little also had three hits apiece, while Cole Kelly had a single and drove in three.

Jeremy Rice (3-3) picked up his second straight win, as the right-hander scattered six hits and four runs (two earned) over five-plus innings of work.

Southwestern's three-man bullpen of Collin Buckley, Stephen Greenlees and Hayden Holley limited the Mountaineers (8-16, 0-4 SCAC) to only two hits in the final four frames. The trio also combined to strike out six.

The two teams will conclude the set Saturday with a doubleheader. First pitch is slated for 12 p.m.
