GEORGETOWN, Texas - The Southwestern baseball team split a doubleheader with Trinity to salvage the series Monday at Rockwell Field. The Tigers claimed the first game, 6-2, but the Pirates rebounded to post a 9-8 walk-off victory in the 11th inning of the nightcap.

Southwestern (7-11, 1-2 SCAC) trailed 8-7 heading into the bottom of the 11th inning of the series finale.

However, the Pirates put two runners on base in front of Ethan Widoff, who put the ball in play with one out. Trinity was unable to record an out on the chopper and an errant throw put the ball in center field, allowing the tying and winning run to score and end the series.

Cole Kelly scored from second base to tie the game, while Riley Wayland came all the way from first to plate the winning run.

The Pirates extended the game in the ninth inning after taking advantage of another Tiger error.

Kelly hit a fly ball to right field that was dropped, which allowed Ben Little to score and pull the Bucs within a run. Two batters later, Kelly scored the tying run on a wild pitch, pushing the contest into extra frames.

Tyler Polasek (1-1) received the win in relief after recording the final out in the top of the 11th inning.

Little and Ethan Hallmark had three hits apiece to pace Southwestern at the plate. Hallmark also drove in two runs. Kelly finished with three runs scored and three bases on balls.

The Pirates will travel to Tyler on Tuesday for a non-conference tilt with No. 8 Texas-Tyler. First pitch is slated for 6 p.m.
