Pirates drop series opener at East Texas Baptist, 14-2

MARSHALL, Texas - East Texas Baptist scored six runs in the opening frame and never looked back, as the Tigers claimed the series opener, 14-2, Friday night at Woods Field.

Southwestern (4-8) managed both of its runs in the second inning on Ehtan Hallmark's two-run single, which plated both Byron Dowdell II and Ethan Widoff.

The Tigers added a run in the bottom of the frame to increase their advantage to 7-2. After three scoreless innings, ETBU struck for three in the sixth and added on four more in the ninth to cap the scoring.

The Pirates were limited to six hits on the night. Hallmark and Ben Little both tallied two hits apiece, while Dowdell was 1 for 3 with a double.

The series will conclude Saturday with a doubleheader. The first game, which is scheduled for seven innings, is set to begin at 1 p.m.
