Baseball drops two non-conference games on Sunday

AUSTIN, Texas – Southwestern dropped a pair of non-conference games Sunday at Tornado Field. The Pirates were handed an 11-3 setback by No. 10 Concordia-Chicago and dropped a 10-4 decision to Concordia Texas.

In the opening game of the day, the Cougars scored six runs in the fourth inning. Concordia-Chicago tacked on two more in the sixth to open an 8-0 lead.

Southwestern tallied all three of its runs in the bottom of the sixth.

Cameron Cooper and Riley Wayland both produced run-scoring singles in the frame, while Kevin Wallace also drove in a run on a groundout.

The Cougars added another run in the seventh and two in the ninth to cap the scoring.

Cooper and Wallace ended with two hits apiece.

Stephen Greenness (1-1) took the loss, as the left-hander gave up four runs (three earned) in three-plus innings of work.

The Pirates scored four runs in the second inning of the nightcap to take a 4-0 lead.

Cooper and Ethan Widoff both drove in runs on singles, while Ben Little logged a two-run double in the panel.

However, Concordia Texas answered the following inning with eight runs to take the advantage.

The Tornados posted two more in the fifth to cap the scoring.

Will Preston (0-1) suffered the loss in the weekend finale, giving up eight runs (five earned) on 10 hits in three innings.

The Pirates will return to action Monday in a non-conference tilt at Texas-Dallas. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m. in Richardson.
