Pirates claim series with doubleheader split on Saturday

GEORGETOWN, Texas – Southwestern clinched a series victory against Huntingdon with a doubleheader split on Saturday at Rockwell Field. The Pirates won the opener 12-4 and dropped the nightcap by a 7-5 score.

Southwestern (4-2) used a seven-run seventh inning to pull away from the Hawks (2-6) in the middle game of the series. The Pirates pounded out 17 hits in the win.

Huntingdon salvaged the set with a victory in the nightcap. The Hawks plated two runs in the seventh to take the lead for good.

Cameron Cooper, Ben Littler and Kevin Wallace all tallied three hits to pace the Bucs' offense on the day. Colby Schmidt drove in four runs, while Cooper and Ethan Hallmark scored three times.

Collin Buckley (1-0) picked up the win in relief in the first game of the day. The right-hander hurled 2.2 innings, allowing one run on two hits and striking out three.

Bryce Sinclair (0-1) took the loss in the series finale. The southpaw allowed two runs, one earned, in two-thirds of an inning.

Southwestern will host Texas-Tyler on Tuesday night. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.
