Southwestern to begin SCAC Championships play on Friday

GEORGETOWN, Texas – No. 4 seed Southwestern will begin postseason play Friday when it takes on top-seeded Texas Lutheran in the opening game of the 2016 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) Championship. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m. at Katt-Isbel Field in Seguin.

The Pirates (16-23) enter the league tournament winners of four of their last five games. Southwestern took two of three game from the Bulldogs, who were crowned co-champions, last weekend at Rockwell Field. The Bucs also beat Texas-Tyler, 6-5, in 10 innings on Monday evening.

Southwestern leads the conference with 91 stolen bases and ranks second in home runs. The Pirates' pitching staff also leads the league with 343.2 innings pitched and ranks second with 237 strikeouts.

The four-team, double elimination tournament also features co-champion and second-seeded Trinity and third-seeded Centenary.

If the Bucs win Friday's opener, the squad would advance to play the winner of Trinity and Centenary at 12 p.m. Saturday. A loss against Texas Lutheran would send the Pirates to Saturday's elimination game, which is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
