Southwestern drops game at Schreiner

With every game meaning so much Southwestern was unable to get some breathing room in the conference standings, falling 4-1 to Schreiner University in Kerrville Friday.

Schreiner struck first with one run in the third and added one more in each of the fourth, sixth and seventh innings. Southwestern struggled to string together hits as they stranded seven base runners in the loss.

Austyn Laird went 2-3 from the plate and drove in the only run for Southwestern. Joseph Koch suffered the loss, allowing two runs, one earned, on two hits while walking four and striking out four.

Southwestern falls to 18-19 on the year and 7-9 in the SCAC while Schreiner improves to 6-30 overall and 3-14 in conference play. SU moves to just a half game lead of Austin College who was no active today. Schreiner and the Pirates finish their series with a double header beginning on Saturday at noon.
