Early runs cost Pirates in losses at TLU

Texas Lutheran took the lead in both games and Southwestern wasn't able to make up the ground as they fell 6-3, 8-4 in Seguin Friday.

Texas Lutheran jumped ahead early in game one with two runs in the first inning and three in the second. Southwestern got in the game with a run in the third, but the Bulldogs matched the effort with a run of their own to maintain a five run lead, 6-1.

Southwestern continued to fight and posted one run in the fourth and eighth innings, but TLU closed the game to hand SU a 6-3 loss.

Joseph Koch suffered the loss, allowing six runs on eight hits while walking three and striking out two. Aaron Aleman took the complete game win. Austyn Laird led at the plate going 2-4.

TLU took an early lead again in game two with six runs in the second. The Pirates cut the deficit in half with a three run third, but the Bulldogs went up by five with two more runs in the fifth.

Southwestern started to get rolling late in the game with one run in the seventh and seemed poised to tie it in the eighth, loading the bases with no outs. Somehow the Bulldogs were able to get out of the jam unscathed as SU stranded all three baserunners and went on to fall 8-4.

Jacob Kendra garnered the loss allowing six runs on four hits while walking three. TLU's Harwell earned the win while Drgac recorded his second save the year.

At the plate, Ethan Luna went 2-3 and Will Cates 2-5. Clayton Sparks posted three RBIs.

Southwestern falls to 15-15 on the year and 6-5 in the SCAC while TLU improves to 24-9 overall and 12-2 in conference action. The two teams will look to finish their series with a game on Saturday with a start time yet to be determined.
