Errors cost Pirates in loss to Cru

Southwestern's bats were strong at home but the Pirates committed six errors in the field to fall 8-7 to Mary Hardin-Baylor at home on Tuesday night.

UMHB opened the scoring with two runs in the second, but Southwestern matched the effort. The Cru were able to post three in the third to lead 5-2 through three. SU had an impressive fourth inning with back-to-back homers over the left field fence by Robert Wehman and Austyn Laird.

Southwestern trailed 6-4 heading into the seventh inning, but SU's bats got hot as they posted three runs on two hits and led 7-6 heading into the eighth inning. With the lead in hand, SU wasn't able to hold on for the win as UMHB scored two runs in the eighth.

Laird led the Pirates at the plate, going 2-4 with two runs scored and one RBI. Collin Buckley suffered the loss, allowing three runs, no earned, on two hits while striking out one.

The Pirates fall to 11-9 on the year. They return to conference play this weekend, hosting Trinity for a three game series beginning on Friday. Friday night's game will be Southwestern's Vs. Cancer game and first pitch is set for 7 p.m.
