Pirates “Get in the Game” against childhood cancer

Pirates “Get in the Game” against childhood cancer

This season, Southwestern Baseball will be playing for a cause in their first Vs. Cancer game.

On March 27th the Pirates host Trinity and before the first pitch, each member who has chosen to participate will have their heads shaven in a show of support for kids with cancer.

Each participating member also has a personal donation page that links from the Southwestern team page (http://team.vs-cancer.org/southwestern). The base goal is $5000 for the team, but SU hopes to far surpass that goal.

The money raised will directly impact kids in Central Texas. Half of the donations will go to Dell Children's Hospital and the other half will go to national cancer research.

Chase Jones, as a freshman baseball player at UNC, walked off the practice and into student health to find out he had stage 4 brain cancer. The support from his teammates helped him tackle the disease, but it also became apparent as he went through treatment that other kids did not have the same level of support. From that, the Vs. Cancer Foundation was born on the idea that any person, any athlete, at any age can make a difference in the lives of kids battling cancer. To watch more of the Vs. Cancer Foundation story, please click here. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3649vz7GFXY)

Approximately 80% of the Southwestern Baseball team is taking part in this initiative and are beginning now. To donate or learn more, please visit http://team.vs-cancer.org/southwestern.
