Pirates fall to 2nd-ranked Tigers in series opener

SAN ANTONIO – The No. 2 team in the country, Trinity Tigers held the Southwestern University baseball team at bay Friday in a 10-0 win to open a three-game SCAC series at Tiger Baseball Field.

The Pirates fell to 4-16 overall and 1-3 in league play while the Tigers improved to 16-1 and 4-0 in the SCAC. Both teams will wrap-up the series with a double-header on Saturday afternoon.

Starter Jason Stading was able to keep the game close as he battled with the Tigers' starter, Michael Walk. Stading threw 5.1 innings but a was charged with all five runs in the bottom of the sixth as the Pirates needed help from Collin Buckley and Nino Tutino to get out of the inning.

On the opposite side, Walk allowed just two hits over seven inning while striking out five and walking none.

The middle of the Pirate lineup continued to stay hot although the three hits were scattered between Charlie St. Clair, Colten Shea and Will Cates.

Trinity added a run in the seventh and ended the game in the eighth via run rule after adding two more runs in the final frame.

First pitch from San Antonio was pushed back from its originally scheduled time to 2 p.m. as the Pirates will look to clinch their first conference series win in the double-header.
