Pirates Fall to #13 Tigers

The Trinity Tigers used a steady flow of runs to defeat Southwestern at home 13-1 on Saturday afternoon.

Trinity posted the first run of the game in the second inning, scoring on a wild pitch and passed ball to put the Tigers up 1-0 early. Southwestern threatened with a response in the bottom half of the inning, getting runners on first and second with two outs. Will Burks scored the equalizer after stealing third and scoring on the wild throw to bring the score to 1-1 through two.

Despite a strong performance on the mound, Trinity was able to extend their lead in the third with bloop singles to right field. After all was said and done the Tigers had extended their lead to five, 6-1, and added three more in the fourth and four in the sixth. Southwestern didn't have an answer as the game headed into the seventh with SU down 13-1.

In the bottom of the seventh the Pirates got things rolling again with two outs. After walks to Michael Nguyen and Ross Meyer, Colten Shea singled to right field to load the bases. Jay Sterling stepped confidently to the plate and hit a screamer back up the middle, but Turner snagged the ball and threw Sterling out at first for the final out of the game.

Southwestern had six hits on the afternoon, led by Shea and Jeff Glasgow who posted two each. Trinity's Hall led all hitters going 3-4 on the afternoon.

With the loss the Pirates fall to 3-35 on the year and 0-18 in the SCAC while Trinity improves to 31-7 and 14-5. The two teams wrap up the series and regular season on Sunday at 1 p.m.
