Concordia (TX) Sneaks Past Pirates

AUSTIN, Texas - Concordia (TX) snuck by Southwestern in a tightly contested 4-2 game on Monday night.

Concordia jumped on Southwestern early in the bottom of the 1st inning.  Schaekel led off with a triple to left center and scored on a sacrifice fly by Skalaban.  After a pair of doubles, Bertsch had an RBI ground out to second base to put the Tornados up 2-0.

Southwestern fought back in the top of the 2ndZachary Lynch led off with a double down the left field line and scored as Will Burks reached on an error by the center fielder to cut it to a 2-1 game. 

The Pirates tied the game in the 5th inning.  Ketchum Marsh drew a leadoff walk and advanced to second on a ground out by Will Cates.  He moved over to third on a groundout by Charlie Garrett.  Then Marsh scored on a single by Colton Shea to knot the score at 2-2.

Concordia took back the lead in the bottom of the 6th on a single followed by a RBI triple. 

Southwestern threatened to tie the game again in the 8th.  Shea drew a one out walk and advanced to third on a double to right center by Jay Sterling.  The Pirates had the suicide squeeze on with Chase Allen at the plate.  Concordia was able to get out of the jam by getting the strikeout and the tag out of Shea coming home.

The Tornados added an insurance run in the bottom half of the frame.  McManemin walked, stole second, advanced to third on a 2-3 putout at first base and scored on a wild pitch.  Concordia retired Southwestern in order in the 9th to hold on to the 4-2 win.

The Pirates were led offensively by Zachary Lynch, who went 1-4 with a double and scored.  Southwestern falls to 3-33 on the year.
