SHREVEPORT, Louisiana - The Pirates committed too many errors and lost to Centenary 24-10.
The Pirates went down 8-0 in the 1st inning. A double by Clakley allowed Creamer and Gasporra to score. Centenary hit three singles, and continued to score off errors by the pitcher and catcher. In the next inning, an error by the second baseman brought home two more runners to put Centenary's lead at 10-0 just after 2 innings.
Southwestern then got some momentum going in the top of the 4th inning, when they loaded the bases. After Chase Allen reached on a catcher's interference, Jeff Glasgow finally scored a run, putting the Pirates on the scoreboard. They scored two more runs after keeping the bases loaded: Cruz Luna scored after Lance Gottardy was hit by the pitcher, and Zachary Lynch scored off a single by Tyler Herriage. This got the Pirates within seven at 10-3.
Centenary began to put the game away by scoring 8 more runs in the 4th. Martinez scored after Parrott scored on an error by the right fielder, and advanced to second on the throw. Later, the Gents had the bases loaded again, and scored off a hit by the pitcher, a walk, a single with 2 RBIs, a triple with 2 RBIs, and a sacrifice fly. Centenary was in control after the inning was over at 18-3.
Even though the Pirates scored 7 more runs in the last three innings, the deficit was too much. They could not catch up to Centenary, who scored 6 more runs in the last two innings and won the game 24-10. Southwestern dropped to 2-25 on the season with the loss.
Layton Tromba was the winning pitcher of the game, pitching 5 innings, and giving up five runs on four hits, and allowed no walks. The Pirates were led offensively by Jeff Glasgow, who went 3-5 with two runs batted in and scored twice.
The Pirates will close the series at Centenary tomorrow at 1:00PM.
