Pirates Suffer Doubleheader Losses to Trinity

SAN ANTONIO, Texas - The Pirates lost to their archrival, the Trinity Tigers, 4-0 and 6-1 on Saturday afternoon.

It was scoreless through the first four innings, until Trinity scored in the bottom of the 5th inning. Clements was the first runner of the Tigers to score after he hit a single, advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Wolf, advanced to third on a throwing error by the pitcher, and scored on a double by Woodruff. Later in the inning, Woodruff scored on a wild pitch.  Francke followed with a single up the middle and earned 2 RBIs. The Pirates got out of the threat with a double play.

However, Southwestern could not get anything going in terms of scoring.  Zachary Lynch, Cruz Luna, Colton Shea, and Colby Dutton each singled for the Pirates.  Lucero earned the complete game win in game 1 and improved to 3-1, while Carl Mueller dropped to 0-4.

In game two, it was more of the same. Trinity scored in the bottom of the 2nd, when Moore had a sacrifice fly for a RBI, allowing Jewett to score. Francke later hit a double to right field and garnered 2 RBIs, as Blanchi and Griffin scored. Trinity continued to roll en route to the 6-1 win.  The Trinity Tigers improved to 10-2 on the season and the Pirates moved to 1-15.
