Webber Highlights SCAC Awards for Pirates

MILLINGTON, Tenn. - The Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference announced their 2012 All-SCAC Baseball Team on Thursday evening at the SCAC Conference Tournament and senior pitcher Chris Webber earned a well-deserved spot on the squad. Senior infielder Nate Shipp earned an Honorable Mention selection.

Webber had a sensational senior season for Southwestern on the mound, leading the Pirates in nearly every pitching category. In 65.1 innings of work Webber led SU in strikeouts with 36, averaging almost five strikeouts per game while walking just 14 batters all year. He posted a 4.55 ERA, allowing 40 runs, 33 earned, on 76 hits. No other Pirate even game close to throwing as many complete games as Webber this year as he closed out six contests that he started, also second in the SCAC. Webber tied for the most wins this year with three and made 11 appearances, starting 10 times.

This is Shipp's second Honorable Mention All-SCAC selection as he was chosen to the team in 2010. This year Shipp made 121 plate appearances and recorded 33 hits, third on the team, and posted a .273 batting average. He led Southwestern in runs scored with 24, home runs with five and tied for the most triples with two.  His 20 RBIs and five doubles ranks him third on the team in both categories.

Southwestern closed out the season with a 11-27 overall record an 7-13 in the SCAC. The highlight of the 2012 season was a Saturday sweep of then #1 nationally-ranked Trinity on April 6th
