SEGUIN, Texas – Southwestern was defeated on Tuesday afternoon by Texas Lutheran 4-3.  The Pirates were in control most of the game, but yielded to the home Bulldogs in the bottom of the ninth inning.

The Pirates opened the scoring in the top of the third inning.  Ryan Doane led off with a single and advanced to third on a Cruz Luna double.  Then Nate Shipp singled to bring in Doane for the first run of the game.  Zach Lynch followed with a double to score two more runs to put the 'Bucs up 3-0.

Cody Lovas started at pitcher for Southwestern and threw well through the first six innings.  He scattered four hits and held Texas Lutheran scoreless during that time frame. 

However, the Bulldogs were able to mount a comeback in the bottom of the seventh.  Two runners reached base with two outs after being hit by a pitch and a walk.  They followed that up with a pair of singles for a pair of runs.  The next batter drew a walk to load the bases.  The third run of the inning scored after another batter was hit by a pitch to tie the game at 3-3.

The game stayed even until the bottom of the ninth inning.  Peterson took first base after being hit by a pitch with one out.  Two consecutive singles loaded the bases for the Bulldogs.  Then Peterson scored the winning run on a wild pitch to end the game 4-3 in favor of Texas Lutheran.

Zachary Lynch led the Pirates offense by going 1-4 with a double and two RBI. 

Southwestern's record moves to 10-25 on the year and Texas Lutheran improves to 24-11 overall.

The Pirates play their last series at home, hosting Hendrix in a doubleheader on April 21st, with the first game beginning at 1:00pm at Rockwell Field in Georgetown, Texas.
