Pirate Swimmers Conclude Strong Meet at Miami

SU swimmers finished a very good weekend three-day meet in Athens, OH as they went up against a number of NCAA Division I, II and III programs.

In the opening race, the women's 200 yard medley relay team of Bailey Thompson (Garland, TX/Garland HS), Alana Bergfield (Dhahran, Saudi Arabia/The Cranbrook School), Sam Kessler (Austin, TX/Westwood HS) and Jessie Carrier (Victoria, TX/St. Joseph HS) posted a season-best time of 1:53.21. Thompson then broke the program record in the 200 yard backstroke, posting a time of 2:10.45.

Bergfield qualified for the C finals in the 200 yard breaststroke and swam a season-best 2:27.55. The junior also put up a time of 2:12.94 in the C finals of the 200 yard IM, also setting a new program record. Kessler improved on her best time in the 500 yard freestyle by over four seconds, finishing in 5:25.29 and broke the previous record by 2.7 seconds.

The Pirates placed 14th out of 16 teams with just four swimmers competing at the meet.
