Southwestern plays all of its home games at Georgetown ISD Athletic Complex and Birkelbach Field. The 12,442 seat facility was built in 2008 and is owned by the Georgetown Independent School District. The Pirates made their return after 63-years on September 7, 2013 against Texas Lutheran in front of a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference record 7,500 fans. The attendance record was not just a one-time thing as community support helped the Pirates finish their first season ranked in the top 25 of NCAA Division III in attendance. The facility is also the home of both Georgetown and East View high school football and soccer teams and hosts a number of playoff games each year. Including the Texas UIL boys and girls state soccer tournaments. The complex is equipped to host televised games as Fox Sports South has broadcasted the state soccer tournament the past few seasons. It has also seen regionally televised football playoff games across the state. The field is named in honor of Coach Bernard E. Birkelbach, Georgetown High School teacher and football coach from 1948 - 1965. The GISD Board of Trustees selected the name Birkelbach Field to honor the memory of Coach "Birk" who made numerous contributions to the school district and community. Pirate football also enjoys new facilities located on campus including two new practice fields, a 15,000 square-foot field house with locker rooms, a weight room, coaches’ offices and a new track to support the university’s track and cross-country programs |
