Fidler named Athletic Communications and Digital Media Coordinator

GEORGETOWN, Texas – Director of Athletics Dr. Glada Munt announced Annabel Fidler as the Athletic Communications and Digital Media Coordinator for the Southwestern Athletic Department.

Annabel has recently completed her master's degree in Mass Communication with a focus in Digital from Texas State University, where she spent time researching media trends, data journalism and focused on sports media research.

"We are delighted to have Annabel join our staff as she brings a fresh approach to our social media presence," said Associate Athletics Director Glenn Schwab. "I believe she will help us make an impact on how we communicate as we continue to elevate all our programs."

Prior to joining the staff at Southwestern, she worked with the content editing team for Active.com at Active Network, a Dallas-based software company that serves athletic and wellness programs such as race management, team & collegiate sports management, recreation management, YMCA's and camp & class management.

During her time as a graduate student, Annabel worked as a graduate assistant for the class Fundamental of Digital Media where she helped students build skills in HTML/CSS, video interviewing and editing, online app designing and online writing. She has also spent the past two years working at SXSW Interactive. She worked as the content editor for SXTX State media team. She served as the sports content writer and covered sports and recreation experts from professional athletics, sports companies, think tank organizations and research firms.

Annabel also spent time as the Texas State Sports Information Videographer where she incorporated weekly press interviews with head coaches and players for the Texas State football and basketball teams for the university athletics department.

"Sports are where athletes not only compete, but develop a work ethic and inspire others on and off the field. I hope to use my skills to showcase this side of the coaches and players at Southwestern University," Annabel said.

She also worked as the web developer and content manager for the TEDx program at Texas State during the fall of 2017.

She spent time working under Mary Ullmann Japhet and Carolyn Wheat as a videographer for San Antonio Sports, a nonprofit organization that hosts events such as the NCAA Championships and the Rock 'n' Roll San Antonio Marathon. The organization also conducts sports and fitness programs for the youth and community ot help promote healthy bodies and healthy minds across the city of San Antonio. 

In 2015, she graduated for the University of the Ozarks in Clarksville, AR, with a degree in Strategic Communications and Radio/Television/Video.  Annabel also played on the women's basketball team during her undergrad. She is a San Antonio native who loves the Central Texas area and college athletics.

"I am very excited to work with the coaches and athletes for this upcoming 2018-19 season. I grew up playing AAU basketball tournaments at Southwestern University, so the community feels like home."
